X-play has posted their Borderlands Character and Story videos from the show last night! Learn more about the story and characters in Borderlands, and check out some nice gameplay footage as well! Don't forget to tune in to X-play again tonight - Borderlands will be featured again!
I know I've seen many questions about this from the community and now I can answer with certainty - yes, Borderlands will be available via Steam! Not only that, but the PC version will feature some special touches, like being able to export .jpg version of item cards and timedemo benchmarking. The menus will also be fully realized for use with the mouse! Check out the story on Destructoid!
It all started with an innocent tweet by Creative Director Mikey Neumann:
Before long, several people had replied with photos of themselves pre-ordering Borderlands. Awesome! Mikey's release day schedule was filling up pretty quickly as he responded to people wanting to play with him and get some loot! A fun time for the whole community!
Tweets started pouring in! It was a tweet tsunami! Mikey didn't anticipate such an enormous response, but the promise of playing with someone at our studio AND receiving phat lewt was just too much for people to pass up. It was huge! Mikey should have been crushed by the sheer volume of responses, but no! He has not only survived, he has thrived! Here's Mikey with his list (not final):
If you're one of the lucky folks that got your pre-order in to Mikey, I hope you'll have a great time playing when he gets to you! Keep watching him on Twitter - we never know what he'll do next!
Borderlands is featured on Giantbomb.com with a reveal of the Crimson Lance, the private army present on Pandora at the behest of the Atlas Corporation. Learn more about this dangerous force in Borderlands by reading the article, which also touches on Borderlands' length, missions, and AI!
2K has posted a video on their youtube account of an interview with Randy Pitchford (Gearbox President) and Steve Gibson (VP of Marketing) from the exclusive Australian Press Event held not too long ago. Check it out for a peek into a closed-door press event, an interview, and some footage from Borderlands!
Check out this hands on of Borderlands on OXCGN - this is another piece that came from our recent press tour in Australia. We hope you'll enjoy the preivew (and the video from Borderlands)!
"For those looking for a game that is going to supply a huge amount of replay value, then this game would have to be it. You could wander around all day looking for loot, acquiring weapons and parts to manufacture other creations, or simply follow the storyline and work your way through it reasonably quickly. But don’t expect to get through it even that way too fast."
Not too long ago, Gearbox sent out a preview build of Borderlands to many different gaming news outlets. They were finally able to get some real quality time with the game, and many have now posted their impressions of the first several hours of gameplay. Though the build didn't have everything (we can't give all the secrets away!), it had a good deal of content and many hours for the press to get a solid feel for the game. So, on to the previews! Check these out to learn even more about Borderlands! The game is coming Oct. 20 (23 internationally), so maybe these peeks into the world will tide you over!
New York Times - 10 Games You Can Count On! "But I’m a sucker for any postapocalyptic combat simulation that gives me millions of possible gun configurations to play with."
Gametrailers video preview (really great!)
Ars Technica: The Well-Armed Man Is King! "If you loved the loot-collecting aspect of Diablo—and make no mistake, this is a First-Person love letter to Diablo—you're going to be in heaven here."
IGN: Further into the Borderlands "With a slick graphical presentation and so much left to see, it seems like Borderlands is on the right path."
Gamespot's Borderlands Preview "Borderlands has a wicked sense of humor along with some colourful characters, such as the town doctor, Dr. Zed. He doesn't actually have a med school degree, but he'll keep you supplied with med packs nonetheless."
Shacknews Preview "While my time with the game was brief, it made quite a strong impression on me. By the time I had to go, I could already feel the addiction setting in--that drive to slay just one more foe, to do just one more quest, to gain just one more level before leaving."
Kotaku: First hour of Borderlands (spoilers!)
USA Today - Game Hunters "Using each of these weapons felt very natural. Weapons deliver kickback and require the kind of accurate firing players would expect from a realistic shooter."
Gamespy Preview "I once shot a charging Skag in mid-air with an incendiary rifle, causing it to burst into a huge ball of fire, taking out a couple smaller critters nearby. Decapitations and gibs abound, so things can get nice and messy."
G4TV Preview "It might sound a bit glaringly obvious, but the biggest issue I have with Borderlands right now is that I’m already at the point where I’m looking forward to it and I’m sold on the concept. I just wish I could play beyond the stopping point in the preview to see how it plays out in the final product."
As always, our forum community is hard at work finding every scrap of Borderlands information out there! Huge thanks to everyone in the community who helped find and compile these articles for everyone to see!
Even more articles from the Australian press tour! Here's an interview with Randy from Ausgamers, answering questions from the community (our favorite kind!).
"One of the things we discovered when playing the game (we're losing productivity now because we're having so much fun playing), sometimes you know, you're talking smack and someone is like "dude, you know I'm totally carrying this" and we realised we needed a way for people to settle who is the best playing the game and so we added the Duel which is a true PVP one-on-one battle (very much like WoW duels - Steve.) where you can throw down and see who's the best, and you can do this with anyone, anytime, anywhere in the game - even if you're in the middle of a boss fight you can totally duel."
Steve and Randy continue their press tour in Australia, and we hope you enjoy some of the new interviews and articles coming from it! Here's a preview from the PAL Gaming Network!
"We could easily write a lot more about the content available in Borderlands, with things such as vehicles, the PvP and Arena systems and individual classes, but we figure you’d best want to discover most of it for yourself. From what we have seen in our play time with it, Gearbox seemed to have successfully captured the addictive feel and nature of the most popular MMO out there, but also blended their experience in FPS into it, to create a vivid and immense world which is easy to get consumed by and hard to leave alone."
